QM, YORK

The cathedral city of York is one of the most attractive cities in England and perhaps in Europe. Dating back to Roman times, York has been a leading city of culture, commerce and education throughout British history. The city attracts many thousands of visitors every year from all around the world to see the Roman and Viking ruins, the Cathedral and picturesque old city. As the centre of government for northern England for centuries, York was at the centre of many national events and this is reflected in the extensive heritage available to be discovered today. The city is also a thriving commercial and shopping centre, and the surrounding areas are home to some of the richest individuals in the UK  today.

The summer school takes place at the beautiful venue of the Queen Margaret's school, located in the attractive of Village of Escrick just south of the city. QM School has excellent facilities including high quality residential accommodation, classrooms, two swimming pools, sports fields (including a golf course) and social facilities, all of which are on site. It takes 15 minutes to travel from Escrick to York city centre by local bus. There is a frequent service with buses departing every 20 minutes from Escrick village, which also has a convenience store, pub and hotel just outside the school gates. The school is outstanding and very popular so competition for places is high.

The students are accommodated  in one of the various residential blocks on site. Most rooms are twins although some larger rooms are available. Many rooms have their own washbasin and all rooms are well furnished and carpeted. As a girls school throughout the year, the accommodation is very well maintained. There are plenty of baths and showers in each house, and there are comfortable and attractive common rooms for evening relaxation. Kitchen areas are also available in each house.

The programme offered at this  venue is Standard and includes ESL classes (3 hours per day) and an all inclusive afternoon and evenings sports and leisure programme. The young, warm and friendly staff make the children feel at home very quickly and encourage them to make friends with the children of many different nationalities at the camp, using the English language to communicate.
